Coming February 18 & 19 is the Winter Blast in Lake City! Nick Bednorek, Chamber Board of Director and owner of Ducts Unlimited Heating & Air Conditioning has been spearheading this event. He has asked businesses, organizations, and individuals to participate by holding an event and the community has risen to the occasion!
Saturday, on Feb. 18 you can get in on the $10,000 ice fishing contest organized by Bait Shop North. There is a $25 entry fee and begins at 7 a.m. You must be signed up no later than noon. There is a $10,000 tagged fish to catch and a Walk Off Grand Prize - Marcum LX-7 Fish Finder and also cash prizes! Matt Bellows, owner of Bait Shop North also will offer a kids contest. At 10 a.m. there will be Softball on Ice, sponsored by the Missaukee Humane Society. Get your team together and contact Shelly Burns at 231-229-4281 for more information.
From 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. you will find WUPS Live Remote at the City Dock Area sponsored by Bait Shop North & Ducts Unlimited Heating & Air Conditioning.
At 10 a.m. is also a Clues Road Rally. Sounds like great fun! Be in Lake City's version of the Amazing Race! sponsored by Hutchinson's Septic & Excavating and K-Line Signs & Graphics.
Weather permitting, Carol Porter will be offering Horse Drawn Carriage Rides from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Also at 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. is Ice Golf (Closest to the Pin). This event is sponsored by Missaukee Golf Club and will be held at the City Dock Area.
The Town Pump is of course on board with their Out House Races. You can register at 11 a.m. with the races beginning at noon.
From 12:00 - 4:30 p.m. is the Poker Run. Stops include Whipples Store, Kregear's Party Store, Moddersville Store, the Eagles Club, the Town Pump Saloon, the Food Factory & Pub and the Hollywood Bar. Turn in your hand at the Hollywood Bar by 4:30 p.m. Prizes to be awarded. You can go by car or snowmobile and include the whole family!
At 1 p.m. there will be a Snow Sculpture Contest at the City Dock Area sponsored by Belle Oakes Living Center.
2:00 p.m. is the Kids $$ Cross Country Ski Chase for kids ages 8-12 years old. One person will have money attached to his back and will go around the track while the kids try to take the money off of his back! This should be fun! This event is sponsored by Citizens Bank of Falmouth.
At 2:00 p.m. is Horseshoes on Ice! Traditional horseshoes and Redneck Divisions will take place! So head down to the City Dock Area and give it a try! Sponsored by Ducts Unlimited Heating & Air Conditioning.
2:30 p.m. is Kids Games at the City Dock Area. Get the kids down town and get rid of some of that excess energy! Sponsored by the McBain & Lake city Boy Scout Troop #40.
From 5-7 p.m. head to the American Legion at 114 N. Main St. for the Chili Cook Off. A perfect way to warm up before heading to the 5:30 Family Snowmobile Parade, sponsored by the Missaukee Trail Blazers.
Stop by the Chamber office any time on Sat. or Sun. to warm up and have some coffee & hot chocolate.
The fun doesn't end on Saturday though, so plan on being in town on Sunday too.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19
The Fishing Contest continues until 3 p.m. with prizes awarded at 3:30 p.m.
At 11 a.m.. Big Moe will have his BBQ fired up so plan on some great BBQ for lunch!
From 1-4 p.m. WKLT will have a live remote, sponsored by Bait Shop North. they will announce the fishing contest winners at 3:30 p.m.
At 12 p.m. get ready for the Softball on Ice Championship Game! Sponsored by the Missaukee Humane Society.
From 12:00 - 3 p.m. watch Sean Bell do some chain saw woodcarving. He will also have carvings for sale.
2:00 p.m. is the Horseshoe on Ice Championship sponsored by Ducts Unlimited Heating & Air Conditioning! Traditional & Redneck Divisions! Come down for the fun!
